This laboratory is used to characterise the key physio-chemical properties of slags, glasses and ashes; namely: melting properties, crystallisation properties and viscosity.
Key equipment:
- Heating Microscope (Misura 2 HSM 1600-50)
- Identification of thermal transition points (sintering, softening, melting, fluidity) from analysis of sample profile according to the DIN 51730 standard
- Low resolution dilatometry (+/- 0.15%)
- Option for controlled atmosphere
- Maximum operating temperature: 1600 °C
- Wettability of slags
- Simultaneous Thermal Analysis (Netzsch STA 409 PC)
- Combination of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis to measure the enthalpy and weight change during phase transitions
- Inert and reaction gases available
- Maximum operating temperature: 1500 °C
- Rotational Viscometry (Bahr VIS 403 & 403/HF)
- High temperature viscosity measurement of slags, fluxes and glasses over a selected temperature range
- Maximum operating temperature: 1600 °C
- Viscosity range: 1 – 107 dPas
