A world leader in the steel and steel processing industry has visited the Materials Processing Institute as it continues to strengthen its ties with global partners.

Delegates from the Steel Division of voestalpine Group visited the research and innovation centre for an official visit, which included discussions about potential future opportunities between the two organisations.

Dr Franz Androsch, Senior VP, R&D and Innovation, D.I. Thomas Bürgler, Head of R&D Hot Metal Production, and Dr Peter Reisinger, Head of R&D Steelmaking, were given a tour of the Institute's facilities that was led by Materials Processing Institute CEO Chris McDonald.

The delegates were shown around the Institute's specialist metals research laboratories and pilot plant facilities, as part of the visit.

In its business segments, voestalpine is a globally leading technology and capital goods group with a unique combination of material and processing expertise. voestalpine has around 500 Group companies and locations in more than 50 countries on all five continents and currently employs up to 50,000 staff.

Chris McDonald, CEO of the Materials Processing Institute, said: "This latest visit highlights the Institute's expertise within the steel and metallurgy industries, as well as building on our strong working relationships with multinational organisations, such as voestalpine AG. We have continued to enjoy excellent relations with many of the world's leading steel producers and suppliers, and were delighted to welcome voestalpine, recognised as a global leader in steel quality and innovation, to the region and to demonstrate our extensive R&D capabilities.

"We have continued to invest in our facilities and people, which has allowed us to remain at the forefront of technological advances within the industry, and that has allowed the Institute to develop these global ties. It was a positive visit and great opportunity to showcase our capabilities with voestalpine and its Steel Division, which is at the forefront of high-tech steel making."

Franz Androsch, Senior VP, R&D and Innovation, at voestalpine summarized the visit as follows: "It was very interesting for us to get to know this independent and very active research institute with its advanced laboratory equipment and trial plants. We had fruitful discussions, which brought up quite promising opportunities for a potential future cooperation."
