Keynote Speaker Announced for 2nd Postgraduate Research Symposium on Ferrous Metallurgy

The Materials Processing Institute is pleased to announce that Ron Deelen, Chief Marketing Officer of British Steel, will be the keynote speaker at the 2nd Postgraduate Research Symposium on Ferrous Metallurgy, taking place on 26th February 2019 at the prestigious Armourers’ Hall, London.

Ron has lived and worked in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and the UK. He started his career as a management trainee with DAF trucks and then spent 18 years with fastener company Nedschroef in a variety of management positions.

His first taste for the steel industry was when he took up a role as Technical Director for long products manufacturer Saarstahl. He also spent time with BOSAL, as both Divisional Director and President of their Europe, Middle East and Africa NORMA Group. Ron was CEO of FNSteel in the Netherlands where he led the work to support British Steel’s acquisition of the company in 2017. As CMO at British Steel, Ron is responsible for the company’s downstream businesses.

The Postgraduate Research Symposium on Ferrous Metallurgy gives PhD students the opportunity to showcase their current research to industry leaders and academics; it enables academics and students to engage in the research challenges of the steel industry and supports the development of industry led research initiatives by bringing industry and academia together.

In addition to the keynote speech the symposium includes a series of industry paper presentations, a poster display and an interactive zone demonstrating how Industry 4.0 technology is being integrated into the steel industry.

The Symposium is being organised by the Materials Processing Institute, a research and innovation centre providing technology and R&D based services and consultancy to support organisations that work in advanced materials, low carbon energy and the circular economy.
