Steel in the Digital World
Chris Oswin, Manager of the Digital Technologies Group at the Institute is a keynote speaker at the Sir Henry Bessemer Master Class 2019, organised by The Iron and Steel Society, and taking place at IOM3 in London tomorrow.
The theme is “Steel in the Digital World” and the Master Class will give young steel industry professionals some initial background on Industry 4.0 and highlight some of the opportunities and challenges that it brings to the entire UK steel supply chain.
The welcome address will be from Jon Bolton, Director, Liberty Steel Global Business Development, and awarded the Bessemer Gold Medal 2019. This will be followed by a series of Industry 4.0 presentations. Chris will be giving an introduction to Industry 4.0, covering the background, key elements and concepts such as the Smart Factory and how Industry 4.0 and digital technologies are used in the steel Industry.
In the afternoon syndicate groups will discuss issues relating to future technologies and market needs. Each group will be led by a recognised expert in the field and will consider the statement:
“What are the key challenges to ensure effective adoption of Industry 4.0 across the UK steel sector".
Winning teams and individuals will be given the opportunity to develop their own particular area of activity and present these at the Institute’s Postgraduate Research Symposium on Ferrous Metallurgy, 25th February 2020.
