Middle East Iron & Steel Conference opens new opportunities for Materials Processing Institute
Anders Jersby, Business Development Manager for Steel Services at the Materials Processing Institute attended the 19th Middle East Iron & Steel Conference in Dubai, 14th to 16th December. This conference is the premier event on the steel calendar in the MENA region and attracted over 500 delegates from across the globe.
The conference provided good networking opportunities with representatives from all the big players in the regional steel market as well as some of the main industry plant and equipment manufacturers, and has resulted in a number of new potential leads for Materials Processing Institute to pursue.
Topics of discussion included:
- The future of MENA steel: challenges and opportunities
- Raw materials: A turbulent year for iron ore
- Technology: Increasing efficiencies and flexibility
Anders Jersby commented, "This conference has been very interesting with many excellent papers. Perhaps unsurprisingly, a lot of attention and discussion has been focused on the severe financial challenges facing the industry, principally in the shape of cheap Chinese imports, but also due to high energy costs. There was also recognition of the need to employ the latest process technologies in order to maximise productivity and cost efficiencies".
