Materials Processing Institute appoints new Group Manager for Digital Technologies

The Materials Processing Institute has appointed industrial and technology consultant Nicholas Parry as its new Group Manager for Digital Technologies.
With more than two decades experience, 15 of those spent in mining and minerals, general industrial, and associated supply chains, he has previously helped create a global network of industry professionals dedicated to fostering technology and corporate connections.
As Group Manager, he will head up the research group that specialises in the application of digital technologies, including AI, within the foundation industries to deliver improvements in productivity and sustainability, reducing carbon emissions, and enabling the development of new advanced materials.
The role is pivotal to the Teesside-based Institute’s strategy and involves the development of new business, managing and coordinating research projects, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and leading the team to deliver cutting edge research. He will also be a member of the not-for-profit organisation’s wider leadership team.
He takes on this role from Chris Oswin who has taken up the key position of managing the multi-million pound PRISM programme. Delivered by the Institute and funded by Innovate UK, it aims to revolutionise the steel and metals sector through innovation in decarbonisation, digital technologies, and the circular economy.
Nicholas, who has additional experience in broader markets, including aerospace, defence, biotech, industrial technology, and manufacturing, joins the Institute from a focus over the last 5 years on digitisation within Additive Manufacturing processes.
With an MSc in Engineering Leadership and Management, his previous positions include Head of Strategy for Imperial Mining Group in Canada, Head of Projects (Europe) for leading process automation software company Authentise, and Commercial and Applications Director for AI software platform Additive Flow. He has also worked in a consultant capacity across several key projects.
