6G mobile communications is the next Ashok Kumar Fellowship briefing topic
The latest Ashok Kumar Fellow, Dylan Sherman, has started a 3-month post in parliament to provide briefing material for Parliamentarians to look at 6G – Next generation mobile communication technologies.
This POSTnote will provide an overview of the next stage of the evolving mobile communication network, 6G, building on POST’s previous briefings on 5G Technology (2019) and the UK Broadband Infrastructure (2015).
The work aims to explain the technical features and capabilities expected from 6G and how it is likely to differ from 5G once implemented. The POSTnote will also consider what new applications it may enable, and the likely barriers that may need to be addressed before release, such as ensuring that suitable radio spectrum is available.
Work on this briefing commenced in March and POST will accept stakeholder contributions until May 2024.
The Fellowship is run by the Materials Processing Institute, the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
