Green Steel lead joins industry experts for the future of EAF steelmaking discussions

UK Metals Expo Panel Session: From Blast to Arc: A new world of EAF steelmaking in the UK and what it means

Mark Allan, Green Metals & Green Steel Centre Leader, will be joining an expert panel in this session to explore the transition from traditional blast furnace steelmaking to electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking in the UK. The session will also cover how EAF technology can revolutionise the steel industry by enhancing sustainability, efficiency, and economic viability, while also aiding industries like cement in their decarbonisation efforts.

During this session Mark will talk about how EAF pilot plant research at the Materials Processing Institute is supporting the growth of the circular economy with new technologies for scrap grading, rapid steel grade development, blending iron sources, and greening carbon, fluxes and refractories. He will also talk about the Cement 2 Zero project centred around the commercialisation of a zero-CO2 Portland cement replacement by recycling cement into EAF slags.

The panel session will also cover:

Advantages of EAF Technology: Learn how EAF technology improves sustainability, efficiency, and economic viability in the steel industry.

Cross-Industry Impact: Explore how EAF technology can support other industries, such as cement, in achieving decarbonisation goals.

Case Studies and Best Practices: Discover successful implementations of EAF technology and best practices for sustainable steel production.

Mark will be joined by other industry experts:

Gabriella Nizam, Head of Sustainability & Strategy at CELSA Steel UK

Jeremy Makepeace, Commercial Director at Sheffield Forgemasters

Nick Silk, Market and Business Development Manager at Tata Steel UK

Tim Rutter, Head of Public Relations, Tata Steel UK

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into the future of steelmaking and its role in broader industrial decarbonisation.
